REPUBLIC ACT No. 5244

An Act Amending the Charter of the City of Laoag

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:

Section 1. The first paragraph of Section seventeen of Republic Act Numbered Forty-five hundred eighty-four, otherwise known as the Charter of the City of Laoag, is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Sec. 17. City departments.— There shall be the following city departments over with the Mayor shall have direct control and supervision, any existing law to the contrary notwithstanding: (a) Finance and Assessment Department; (b) Engineering and Public Works and Department; (c) Law Department; (d) Health Department; (e) Police Department; and (f) Fire Department."

Section 2. The first paragraph of Section seventy-four of the same Act is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Sec. 74. The Chief of Police.— There shall be a chief of police who shall have charge of the police department and shall receive a salary of three thousand seven hundred pesos per annum, in accordance with the provisions of Republic Act Numbered Eight hundred and forty. No person shall be appointed as chief of police unless he is or has been a regular or reserve officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines with a minimum rank of captain, or possessing the corresponding civil service eligibility for said position. He shall have the following powers and duties:"

Section 3. The portion of the first paragraph, proceedings the enumeration of powers and duties of Section seventy-seven of the same Act is hereby amended to read as follows:

"Article XIV-A — Fire Department

"Sec. 77. The chief of fire department.— There shall be a chief of the fire department who shall have charge of the fire department and shall receive a salary of three thousand seven hundred pesos per annum. He shall have the following powers and duties:"<<

Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
