DECLARING TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2001, AS A SPECIAL NON-WORKING DAY IN DUMAGUETE CITY

WHEREAS, the 28th day of August 2001 marks the 100th founding anniversary of Silliman University, having been established on August 28, 1901;

WHEREAS, Silliman University, since its founding by American Presbyterian missionaries a century ago, has graduated men and women who have distinguished themselves in various fields and have gone on to serve in various capacities not only in our country but also abroad;

WHEREAS, Silliman University has over the years provided Negros Oriental and neighboring provinces and cities with quality and God-centered education;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the people of the host City of Dumaguete be given full opportunity to celebrate the centennial of Silliman University and welcome its alumni and benefactors with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me in Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27, of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Tuesday, August 28, 2001 as a special non-working day in Dumaguete City.
