[ Proclamation No. 8, February 20, 2001 ]

DECLARING THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2001, AS A SPECIAL DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 8973 dated November 7, 2000, provides for the creation of the Province of Zamboanga Sibugay from the Province of Zamboanga del Sur and mandates the holding of plebiscite for the ratification thereof;

WHEREAS, the Commission on Elections, in its Resolution No. 3577 dated February 8, 2001, has scheduled the plebiscite day for the ratification of the creation of the said province on Thursday, February 22, 2001;

WHEREAS, to enable the residents of the said province to actively participate in the scheduled political exercise, there is a need to declare the plebiscite day as a special day.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFOR, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Thursday, February 22, 2001, as a special day in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
