DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER 2001, AS NATIONAL PRESS CONGRESS WEEK AND THE MONTH OF DECEMBER OF EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS THE MONTH OF PUBLISHERS AND EDITORS IN THE SERVICE OF THE NATION

WHEREAS, the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) is spear-heading the holding of the National Press Congress every first week of December;

WHEREAS, the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) is a professional organization dedicated to the defense and promotion of press freedom and to the lofty ideals of journalism as a public service especially in the countryside;

WHEREAS, there is a need to focus public attention on the important role the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. plays in upholding press freedom and the dignity of the journalism and publishing profession.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the first week of December 2001, as National Press Congress Week and the month of December of every year thereafter as the Month of Publishers and Editors in the Service of the Nation under the auspices of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
