[ Proclamation No. 996, April 11, 1972 ]

DECLARING THE TABON CAVE COMPLEX AND ALL OF LIPUUN POINT IN QUEZON, PALAWAN, AS A SITE MUSEUM RESERVATION.

WHEREAS, the Tabon Cave Complex in Palawan has yielded archeological evidence of our past and of man’s habitation of these caves, found on scientific scrutiny to be about 40,000 years old, by far the oldest known habitation of man at this time;

WHEREAS, because of their historical and cultural value the artifacts have been restored in the caves as close as possible to the original site for visitors to see and ponder upon; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to protect the caves and the immediate vicinity from deforestation, denudation and collapse of the caves for posterity;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the area technically known as “Block Q, Palawan Timberland,” situated at Lipuun Point, Quezon, Palawan, as a Site Museum Reservation under the administration of the National Museum.
