[ Proclamation No. 975, February 21, 1972 ]

DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF MARCH OF EVERY YEAR AS “ENVIRONMENTAL WEEK” AND CREATING A COMMITTEE TO TAKE CHARGE OF ITS OBSERVANCE.

WHEREAS, mankind today faces not merely a threat but an actual world-wide crisis of the human and natural environment, requiring the concern of all nations, large or small, advanced or developing;

WHEREAS, the solutions needed are inter- and intra-disciplinary, integrated and long-range, calling for the active participation and cooperation of all members of the community, both government and private; and

WHEREAS, it becomes imperative to minimize the undesirable consequences on the environment brought about by industrialization and other economic activities by fostering public consciousness and vigilance in maintaining the quality of environment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the first week of March of every year as “ENVIRONMENTAL WEEK,” to be observed throughout the country to focus national attention on the need for environmental planning and the control of pollution, deforestation and other threats to a balanced ecology essential for human progress and survival.

The following are designated members of the Committee to take charge of the national observance of the week with the First Lady, Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos as Honorary Chairman:

The Assistant Executive Secretary (for Financial and Economic Affairs) Member
The Executive Director, National Economic Council Member
The President, Environmental Planning and Development Center (EPDC) Member

The Committee may create such technical or other sub-committees as may be necessary to discharge its functions.1aшphi1

Proclamation No. 817 dated February 19, 1971, is hereby revoked.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
