DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 13 TO 19, 1960, AS RIZAL WEEK IN OBSERVANCE OF THE 99TH BIRTHDAY OF OUR NATIONAL HERO, JOSE RIZAL, AND AS A FITTING ACTIVITY IN PREPARATION FOR THE RIZAL CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION ON JUNE 19, 1961

WHEREAS, the 19th day of June 1961 will be the first centenary of the birth of Jose Rizal, Apostle of Filipino Nationalism, martyr and hero;

WHEREAS, in answer to the popular sentiment that this important event be properly observed, the Jose Rizal National Centennial Commission was created under Executive Order No. 52, series of 1954;

WHEREAS, the Commission has been authorized and directed to undertake the construction of a National Cultural Shrine to be dedicated to Jose Rizal; and

WHEREAS, the eve of the first centenary of Rizal’s birth demands that steps be taken to make our people, particularly the youth, more Rizal-conscious;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from June 13 to 19, 1960, as Rizal Week.1aшphi1

I call upon all the people of this country, all schools and civic organizations to put up Rizal programs and activities to popularize the life, labors and sacrifices of the martyr of Bagumbayan.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
