DECLARING WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19, 1959, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE PHILIPPINES

WHEREAS, the eighty-first birthday of the late President Manuel L. Quezon falls on Wednesday, August 19, 1959;

WHEREAS, it is desirable that our people be given full opportunity to render homage to the memory of our illustrious leader; and

WHEREAS, the nineteenth day of August of every year is also Citizenship Day under Proclamation No. 331, dated August 4, 1952;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CARLOS P. GARCIA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare Wednesday, August 19, 1959, as a special public holiday throughout the Philippines. I enjoin the observance of the day with appropriate ceremonies designated to inculcate upon our people, especially the youth, the rights and duties of good citizenship to the end that they will consecrate themselves to the ideals and traditions of our Republic.
