Proclamation No. 331

DESIGNATING THE NINETEENTH DAY OF AUGUST OF EVERY YEAR AS CITIZENSHIP DAY AND DECLARING TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 1952, A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY.

WHEREAS, the anniversary of the birth of the late President Manuel L. Quezon falls on the nineteenth of August;

WHEREAS, our illustrious leader consecrated himself to the ideal of producing a citizenry conscious of its rights and obligations and worthy of the traditions of a sound and lasting democracy;

WHEREAS, it is desirable that the anniversary of the birth of our departed leader be dedicated to such ideal and that the people be afforded full opportunity to celebrate the day with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ELPIDIO QUIRINO, President of the Philippines, y virtue of the powers vested in me by Section 30 f the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby designate the nineteenth day of August 19, 1952, as a special public holiday. I enjoin the observance of the day by such programs or activities as would inculcate upon people, especially the youth, the rights and the duties of good citizenship to the end that they may consecrate themselves to the ideals and traditions of our Republic.
