Proclamation No. 154

DECLARING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1949, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN THE PROVINCE OF LEYTE.

WHEREAS, the landing of the troops of the United States Armed Forces on the shores of Leyte on October 29, 1944, signaled the beginning of the liberation of the Philippines from the hands of the ruthless Japanese invaders; and

WHEREAS, the people of the Province of Leyte have special reasons for cherishing this date in grateful memory of the valiant and heroic soldiers of freedom;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Elpidio Quirino, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare Thursday, October 20, 1949, as a special holiday in the province of Leyte.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 19th day of October, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty-nine, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the fourth.
