Proclamation No. 435

EXTENDING THE PERIOD OF SPECIAL SESSION OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO AUGUST 26, 1939

Whereas, by Proclamation Numbered Four hundred and twenty-eight, issued on August eighth nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, the National Assembly was called in special session for a period of five. days commencing on Tuesday, August fifteenth, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, for the purpose of considering such amendments to the Constitution of the Philippines as will make operative sections one to five, inclusive, of the Act of Congress approved on August seventh, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, entitled "An Act to amend an Act entitled ‘An Act to provide for the complete independence of the Philippine Islands, to provide for the adoption of a constitution and a form of government for the Philippine Islands, and for other purposes,'" and such other amendments as the National Assembly may deem necessary; and also for the purpose of considering such measures as the Chief Executive may from time to time, submit to it; and

Whereas, in order to dispose of important and urgent legislation now pending consideration by the National Assembly, it is found necessary to extend the period of said special session;

Now, therefore, pursuant to the powers conferred upon me by the Constitution and by existing laws, I, Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, hereby extend the period of special session of the National Assembly, duly called in Proclamation Numbered Four hundred and twenty-eight, to Saturday, the twenty-sixth day of August, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, inclusive.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done at the City of Manila, this nineteenth day of August, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and thirty-nine, and of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, the fourth.
